Part of North Cumbria Methodist Circuit
The North Cumbria Methodist Circuit Charity for 2017-18
At the Circuit Meeting held in March 2017, it was decided that the Circuit Charity (for September 2017 - August 2018) will be Blood Bikes Cumbria. This a registered charity set up some three/four years ago by a group of local volunteers to provide an out of hours emergency response service to the National Health Service to deliver blood and other urgent medical supplies between hospitals and blood transfusion banks, primarily but not exclusively, in Cumbria.
The volunteers also deliver a daily supply of blood to the North Air Ambulance regardless of the weather.
Various fund raising activities organised by the Methodist churches will be taking place throughout the Circuit and your support will be appreciated.
At a recent Circuit Mission meeting it was agreed that members would like to learn about and raise money for Mary’s Meals, a charity that has its roots in Scotland. Starting in 2002 in Malawi feeding two hundred poor impoverished children a daily meal in their place of education, it is now now a global project. At the last count 1,257,278 children in 15 countries around the world were being fed one meal each day at a cost, for each child, of just £13.90 for a whole school year.
We are very fortunate, here in North Cumbria, as Jim Dykes, who is a Community Ambassador for Mary's Meals lives within the Circuit and is willing to come and speak to large or small groups about the charity and its aims. Further information will become available during September and in the meantime, if you are in a position to do so, you may wish to look at the charity’s website at:- https://www.marysmeals.org.uk
